FUDD stands for:

Fear, Uncertainty, & Doubt caused by Disinformation

Disinformation is false and/or misleading information and is intended to get people to believe something that isn't true. It is used by people often in Sales, Politics, Religion ... a good reason that people have a hard time trusting people in those fields.

How do you counter FUDD? Finding sources of information that can either verify or prove wrong what you have been told. In the USA, I listen to NPR, BBC, CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, AP, and Fox. If some event occurs, that is reported in one place, I check other normally reliable sources to see if the information is the same on the other sources. When most are reporting the same thing, it is more likely that it is not disinformation. Note I say "more likely!"

If someone is selling to you, and say bad things about the competition, verify! If they say good stuff about their stuff, VERIFY!

In politics, beware of those who say things without proof!
